World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to increase the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its base stats increase in value. This is the sum of all of its leveled up advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that need to be changed in order to upgrade an item.

It is also used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. The average item level can be found in the character sheet.
Using the item level will allow players to compare the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a sign of the damage and quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor is possible using the level of the item.
On PC, you are able to view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are many theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory suggests that the level of an item is calculated using a formula that calculates the worth of an item's stats actually are. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.
However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the region the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its haste or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stats of a base weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.
Another way to change the stats of an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. item upgrading can do things like give the item extra damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.
All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other rerolling methods.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat within that range unless they are an item that is unique, or the item is a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is particularly beneficial for early game runs, because players tend to put defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each item level. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor, and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Furthermore there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be used to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
click through the following page of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. All items have an overall success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases this chance by five percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects could be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
